Afrofuturism is the reimagining of a future filled with arts, science, and technology seen through a black lens. (Read more about it here: bit.ly/2SgVPD5.) Take in an Artist Talk by Jacolby Satterwhite, an African American visual artist who works with Video, Performance, 3D animation, Fibers, Drawing, and Printmaking (free ticket for this talk is required, reserve in advance here: bit.ly/2PRFMKK). Enjoy a live DJ set by DJ NEEKASODOPE and celebrate the opening of Mia’s latest Contemporary exhibition, “Mapping Black Identities” (bit.ly/2WzWCP4). This exhibition takes its inspiration from the recent acquisition of artist Frank Bowling’s map painting False Start (1970), the work in Mapping Black Identities challenges the notion that Black identity is monolithic. This exhibition seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and create connections around the concept of Blackness in contemporary art across time and place.
