Queer Improv Jam

  • HUGE Theater 3037 Lyndale Avenue South Minneapolis, MN, 55408 United States (map)

HUGE Theater hosts a monthly queer improv jam- an opportunity to meet new people, create, and explore together in a safe space.

This event is 18+, for those who defy conventional notions of gender and sexuality. If you feel you belong here, you belong here!

The jam is free of charge and open to all skill levels, from trying improv your first time to veterans of the stage. Please come as you are, that's more than enough.

We will play a number of improv warm-ups and then perform on stage. Participation is optional but highly encouraged- this is an affirming, non-judgmental community and a safe place to get your feet wet. But anyone can come, participate in warms ups and just watch.

"Why a jam specifically for queer people?"

We want to encourage unapologetic queerness in a historically straight performance art. Since improv is so strongly influenced by the lived experiences of improvisers, it’s important to represent a variety of identities. We often refrain from painting ourselves and our scene partners as queer characters, as these choices have been often ignored or met with discomfort. We want a safe space where the realm of possibilities is as wide as it ought to be.

NOTE: The Jam happens monthly on the second Sunday, 5-7pm
